Background

Adam Decor Center (Adam) started as a family-owned business that handcrafted and distributed curtains and blinds in the 1980s. Over the years, the business has expanded while Adam have excelled at crafting curtains and premium furniture with meticulous attention to detail based on the concept of “Timeless Modernity and Mastery Craftsmanship.”

Challenge

With their headquarters and video creation team based in Don Mueang, and a new flagship store located in the Crystal Design Center in Bangkok, Adam needed to level up their entire company’s storage and networking environment. Adam previously stored data on external hard drives, iCloud, and Google Drive; and while simple and effective for a small company, business growth has realized its shortcomings and potential risks. External hard drives have allowed fast access, but the data would be completely lost when drives fail. Cloud storage has enabled remote access, but does not provide the file access speed necessary for their video creation team to edit RAW files.

Solution

At the flagship store

The system integrator Elysium Tech proposed a solution with the TS-h886 NAS, QSW-M408-2C 10GbE managed switch, and QSW-1208-8C 10GbE unmanaged switch. The TS-h886 NAS performs as a central file storage which also runs Windows 10 virtual machines (using Virtualization Station) to stream videos to digital signage. To allow their staff to work from anywhere, VPN and the Qsync service are activated. An immediate benefit of combining VMs and file storage into one solution has been reducing bandwidth. Pattarakorn uses the QNA-UC5G1T 5GbE adapter with his MacBook to quickly access NAS-based video files.

For the video creation team

The TS-673A NAS and QSW-1208-8C 10GbE unmanaged switch was chosen for smoother video editing. The TS-673A uses the QuTS hero operating system, which is optimized for large file storage. Inside the TS-673A are SSDs that provide faster file access. The entire video editing team can edit and render RAW footage stored on the NAS thanks to the 10GbE switch.

Result

QNAP NAS immediately helped organizing files while enabling staff at different places (the flagship store or headquarters) to seamlessly access files from anywhere and anytime. All of their important files are safely centrally stored in the QNAP NAS, and they also witnessed a remarkable cross-team work efficiency. QNAP NAS is easy to use even for non-IT professionals – reducing unnecessary work on the backend system.
